Brendan Parker:
Meet Brendan Parker: a boy who has an obvious passion for the design and development of New Media. Digital media has arrested my imagination for years. When I learned that the Rochester Institute of Technology offered a multitude of avant-garde courses in this field, I was immediately enthused about becoming a part of the college. Fortunately, an academy that had everything I desired in an education resided close to home.
I have been fascinated by art and design since my youth. I remember scribbling on pieces of construction paper and books, trying to depict a scene evolving from my imagination with no more than a crayon in my hand. Proud parents have held on to some of my work, testifying to my murder of art. Luckily, my drawing skills gradually improved over the years. I clearly remember being introduced to the Windows 3.1, mesmerized by it’s capabilities. I spent hours in the antiquated Paintbrush program, trying to form a lifelike image out of very few colors. I’d bathe myself in the glow of the monitor late into the night, fascinated by the captivating technology. My fervor for art grew to a new height. I was amazed at what I could do with computers.
After I was introduced to better software, I immersed myself deeper into the world of digital media. I was exposed to innovative drawing, game design, and animation programs, which allowed me to give my static images life. RIT would be the perfect college for me. The New Media / Information Technology program introduced me to aspects of the program I had not yet considered or practiced, such as web development. This new talent would become both a career and a hobby.
